Arts Quarter has launched the findings of its 3rd Survey into the affects of the current economic climate on the UK cultural sector.

The report provides a detailed insight into how the recession has continued to work its way through the cultural sector comparing and contrasting these latest findings to those of the first two such surveys conducted by AQ in 2009. Findings clearly indicate that while some degree of recovery is evident, there remains a long way to go, as the sector prepares itself for the outcomes of the Comprehensive Spending Review.

This year's Survey also reports further on views on the likely impacts of the 2012 Olympic Games on the cultural community - again building on AQ's earlier findings, revealing that the optimism felt at this point last year has started to decline once more.

We also use this opportunity to share interim findings on our Hidden Wealth Research Project which has sought to work with organisations to develop understanding and build capacity on working with high-net-worth individuals.

Our 2010 findings show that there are without doubt difficult times ahead for the cultural sector but we also emphasise that organizations are keen to innovate in exploring new revenue streams whether in the areas of individual giving or indeed in exploring commercial opportunities or wider collaborative working. How organizations will continue to do this at a time when subsidy cuts are regarded as essential remains a key question.

Our Survey findings this time point to a need for a new level of intelligent dialogue with Government which recognizes the arts as an essential element of our knowledge-based economy with a commitment to invest effectively in its future so that the sector can play an active and essential role in delivering both regional and national economic growth as well as generating a thriving wider creative sector.
