Hilary Carty

Hilary Carty is an independent coach and consultant specialising in leadership development and organisational change. Recent assignments include: Board Development, Leicestershire; Board Diversity, London Business School; Organisational Development, Nottingham; and mapping the landscape of cultural leadership across the UK, USA and Australia.

Prior to working independently, Hilary was the Director of the Cultural Leadership Programme, a £22m government investment in excellence in leadership within the UK cultural and creative industries. With Hilary’s direction and strategic commissioning expertise, this internationally acclaimed programme raised the sectors’ leadership capacity, facilitated diverse leadership practice and personnel, and delivered increased economic benefits for cultural sector leaders and organisations.

Hilary’s career demonstrates a successful record of significant, senior level management experience in the arts, cultural and creative industries including Director, London (Arts) at Arts Council England, with responsibility for overseeing the development of arts programmes and funded organisations (including the Royal Opera House and National Theatre), as well as leading the Regional Arts Plan for London and steering the Council’s work on the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games. This followed her role as Director, Culture and Education at London 2012, where she delivered the inception and planning of the Cultural Olympiad as part of London's successful Olympic bid.

In recognition of her significant contribution to the arts, culture and the development of work-based learning, Hilary has been awarded Honorary Degrees from De Montfort and Middlesex Universities.

Board Directorships include The Arts Foundation, Siobhan Davies Dance Company and The Horniman Museum.
